Report on the economic and cultural impact of UNESCO’s involvement in Italy

Objectives and expected results: This study aims to offer insight and evaluate the economic and social effects of the \'implementation of Law No 20 February 2006. 77, which regards the value of sites currently included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The conduction of this study will mainly involve short and medium-long term consequences of the law on UNESCO territory.

Activities: The study first conducted an analysis of the territory’s economic characteristics, focusing particularly on the local social and human capital available. Through the analysis of economic and social conduct in three Italian UNESCO sites, Val di Noto, the Residences of the Royal House of Savoy, Pienza and Val d\'Orcia, the study has offered valuable insights and useful evaluation data, allowing the Ministry’s strategy to to better direct a hierarchical classifying strategy through the establishment of a “territorial label”.

Timing and progress: December 2009- March 2011. The project has now concluded.
